Legal Developments and Compensation

  • Filing Lawsuits: Affected individuals have the option to file a lawsuit in the Eastern District of North Carolina, with a deadline currently set for February 10, 2025. There’s a waiting period of at least 6 months after filing an administrative claim before a lawsuit can be filed​​.
  • Trial Anticipations: The first trials for Camp Lejeune are scheduled to begin in 2024. These trials will primarily address track 1 illnesses such as bladder cancer, kidney cancer, leukemia, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and Parkinson’s disease​​​​.
  • Elective Option for Compensation: The Department of Justice has introduced an elective option for victims, offering a two-tiered payout system based on diagnosis, the time spent on base, and whether the victim is still alive. Payouts range from $100,000 to $550,000. It’s important to note that payments from this elective option may be less than what could be secured from a lawsuit​​​​.

Who Qualifies?
